TETFund inaugurates 40-room hostels at Bauchi varsity

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund has inaugurated two 40-room female hostels at Sa’adu Zungur University, Bauchi State.

According to a statement by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Auwal Hassan, the projects, located at the institution’s Gadau Main Campus and Yuli Campus, were commissioned under the Presidential Commissioning of the 2024 TETFund Annual Intervention Projects.

Speaking during the ceremony at the Gadau Main Campus, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sonny Echono, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Bauchi State Ministry of Higher Education and Regional Integration, Isa Tahir, said the projects were designed to improve accommodation and enhance students’ welfare.

He described the hostels as symbols of the government’s commitment to quality education and student welfare.

According to him, the facilities will provide a secure and conducive environment for students to live, learn and realise their potential.

“The hostel is more than a building; it is a home away from home where friendships will be formed, ideas shared, dreams nurtured and future leaders developed,” he said.

Echono stressed that a conducive living environment plays a critical role in students’ academic success and urged beneficiaries to maintain the facilities properly for future generations.

He also commended the Presidency, TETFund, the university management and other stakeholders for their contributions to the successful completion and commissioning of the projects.

In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of Sa’adu Zungur University, Prof. Fatimah Tahir, described the hostel projects as a major milestone in the institution’s efforts to provide a conducive learning environment.

She noted that adequate accommodation remained a vital component of the university experience and praised TETFund for its sustained support for tertiary institutions nationwide.

The vice-chancellor said the newly commissioned hostels would help address accommodation challenges, improve students’ comfort and security, and promote an atmosphere conducive to academic excellence.

“This project is more than bricks and fittings. It reflects TETFund’s commitment to improving students’ welfare and our determination as a university management to prioritise student-centred development,” she said.

Tahir expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for sustaining TETFund’s mandate and ensuring continued investment in educational infrastructure across the country.

She also commended the Executive Secretary of TETFund, contractors and project supervisors for the successful execution of the projects.
