President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, on his victory in Saturday’s governorship election, describing the outcome as a clear endorsement of the governor’s performance and leadership.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the people of Ekiti State for conducting themselves peacefully throughout the electoral process and for demonstrating confidence in Governor Oyebanji through their votes.

Tinubu also commended security agencies for maintaining law and order before, during, and after the election, noting that their professionalism contributed significantly to the peaceful conduct of the exercise.

The President further urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to build on the success recorded in the Ekiti poll by continuing to ensure free, fair, peaceful and credible elections, particularly as the country prepares for the Osun State governorship election in August and the 2027 general elections.

According to the President, Governor Oyebanji’s overwhelming victory is historic, as it makes him the first governor in Ekiti State’s history to secure re-election consecutively.

Tinubu attributed the governor’s electoral success to what he described as notable achievements recorded during his first term in office under the BAO agenda. He highlighted improvements in critical sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, youth employment, education, healthcare and rural development.

The President said the renewed mandate granted to Oyebanji by the electorate represents a strong vote of confidence in continuity, stability and people-oriented governance.

“Governor Oyebanji’s first term was marked by significant strides across key sectors that directly impact the lives of the people. The outcome of the election reflects the people’s appreciation of those efforts and their desire for sustained progress,” the statement noted.

Tinubu advised the governor to be magnanimous in victory and remain committed to inclusive governance by carrying all segments of the state along as he embarks on a second term.

He also commended other candidates who participated in the election, acknowledging their contributions to the democratic process and urging them to support the governor in advancing the state’s development agenda.

The President stressed that the election should mark the beginning of a new phase of unity and collaboration in Ekiti State, calling on political stakeholders to work together in the interest of the people.

Tinubu further reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Ekiti State Government to deliver more developmental projects and deepen the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He expressed optimism that continued cooperation between the federal and state governments would accelerate socio-economic development and improve the welfare of residents.

The President concluded by praying for wisdom, strength and good health for Governor Oyebanji as he continues to serve the people of Ekiti State during his second term in office.
