The University of Jos, UNIJOS, has emerged as the highest beneficiary at the sixth edition of the National Tertiary Admissions Performance-Merit, NATAP-M, Awards organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, receiving a ₦500 million grant in recognition of its outstanding performance in Nigeria’s admissions system.

The award was presented during the 2026 Admission Policy Meeting held on Monday in Abuja.

In a statement issued by the Deputy Registrar, Information, Publications, Public Relations and Protocol, Emmanuel Madugu, the university said the recognition was based on its commitment to transparency, merit, compliance, and due process in the conduct of admissions.

According to the statement, JAMB honoured the institution for its “outstanding commitment to transparency, compliance, merit, and due process in the conduct of admissions.”

Reacting to the award, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya, described the recognition as a reflection of the institution’s unwavering commitment to excellence, integrity, and fairness.

“This award is a strong testament to our dedication to fairness, transparency, and merit in the admission process. We are deeply honoured by this recognition from JAMB,” he said.

Professor Ishaya reaffirmed the university’s resolve to maintain high standards in both academic administration and student admissions.

“We remain committed to sustaining excellence and ensuring that our admission system continues to reflect credibility, equity, and strict adherence to due process,” he added.

The statement noted that the award further strengthens the University’s growing reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading institutions in academic and administrative excellence.

He also attributed the institution’s recent achievements to the leadership of Professor Ishaya, noting that the university has witnessed a significant increase in the admission of foreign students, thereby enhancing its profile as a preferred destination for higher education.

“Beyond maintaining a credible and transparent admission process, the visionary leadership of Professor Tanko Ishaya has led to a significant rise in the number of international students admitted into the institution, making UNIJOS a preferred destination for quality education,” Mr Madugu stated.
