We’re here for crusade, foreign nationals arrested in Lagos claim
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 25 foreign nationals for illegal entry into Nigeria following a swift response to a kidnapping report.
The suspects, apprehended by the tactical creek sweeper squad in the Ijede area of Ikorodu, Lagos, were completely unable to provide any valid travel or residency documentation upon profiling.
While the Chadians claimed that they were in Nigeria for a crusade organised by a very “big” Church (name withheld), the Cameroonians said they were here for network marketing.
According to Zagazola Makama, the arrest followed a complaint lodged by Konga Delphine, a Cameroonian national, who reported a case of kidnapping.
Zagazola Makama is a publication that focuses on the Chad region. Citing security sources, the publication said police operatives “swiftly” mobilised to the reported location, leading to the arrest of the illegal aliens.
The suspects, according to Makama, were unable to provide valid travel or residency documents. The suspects are currently in police custody while investigations continue.
Zagazola Makama said: “Preliminary investigation revealed that the Chadian nationals were allegedly brought into the country illegally under the guise of attending an evangelical crusade purportedly organised (by a Church),” Makama quoted a source to have said.
“The Cameroonian nationals, on the other hand, reportedly claimed they were in Nigeria for network marketing activities.”
