What is left for the ordinary citizen?”- Ex-Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung, expresses concern as he shares video of armed bandits moving “openly” on highway while greeting “security personnel”

Former Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, has expressed concern over the state of security in Nigeria. 

Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has raised an alarm over the state of national security, warning that banditry is fast becoming normalized in Nigeria. 

Dalung, who served during the Muhammadu Buhari administration, expressed his concerns after sharing a disturbing 43-second video on his official Facebook page. 

The viral footage depicts a large convoy of heavily armed bandits riding openly on motorcycles along an unidentified express road. In a shocking twist, an armed individual wearing a Nigerian police uniform can be seen waving at and exchanging greetings with the criminals as they ride past. While the exact date and location of the recording remain unverified, the blatant interaction has sparked widespread outrage online. 

Reacting to the clip, Dalung described the open synergy between security personnel and criminals as heartbreaking and unbelievable. The former minister clarified that his critique was not directed at the patriotic security agents risking their lives on the frontline, but rather at the systemic collapse that permits such open normalization of terror. 

Lamenting the vulnerability of the public, Dalung questioned what hope is left for the ordinary Nigerian citizen under the current security climate.

 He wrote

‘’This country is in a very dire situation

Seeing that bandits now move openly on highways in large numbers on motorcycles, heavily armed, while security personnel stationed along the same roads can do little more than exchange greetings with one another is heartbreaking and unbelievable!

And no, I am not referring to the security operatives who are doing their best to confront these bandits, but about is the apparent normalization and entrenchment of banditry in Nigeria.

The question now is: what is left for the ordinary citizen?
