Why I won’t challenge ADC primary result in court – Hayatu-Deen

Presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has officially announced that he will not challenge the outcome of the party’ s presidential primary election in court.

This comes despite initially raising serious concerns over widespread vote manipulation, irregularities, and lack of transparency during the May 25, 2026 direct primaries.

The former corporate leader and economist said he decided against seeking legal redress after conducting extensive consultations.

Prior to the announcement of results on May 26, the former aspirant had expressed strong reservations, saying: “I am concerned by reports from across the country of widespread vote rigging, some of which I myself observed.

“How can the ADC criticise INEC for election interference and the falsification of results, and yet tolerate the same within its own house?” 

However, in a personally signed statement issued on Monday, Hayatu-Deen said he has chosen not to pursue legal action.

“I have decided, after careful reflection and wide consultation, that I will not challenge the outcome in court. Nigeria urgently requires a strong, credible and united opposition.

“That objective must always remain larger than individual ambition or temporary political disappointment,” he said.

He noted that while the outcome of the primary did not meet his expectations, he had communicated his concerns over “certain processes and procedural matters” directly to the party leadership.

He thanked supporters across the country and urged Nigerians not to accept dysfunction as normal, insisting that the larger struggle to build a fairer and more prosperous Nigeria continues.
