2027: I won?t persecute opposition as Nigeria?s President ? Peter Obi

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has vowed never to persecute the opposition if he emerges as Nigeria’s president in 2027.

Obi stated that he would ensure a viable opposition in Nigeria and sit with them to discuss issues affecting the country if elected.

In an interview with DW, the former Anambra State governor explained that his prospective administration would prioritize making the governance system function properly.

“The system must work the way it should function, I would never prosecute anybody politically, I would never do anything wrong while in office,” Obi said. “I would not go after opponent, I would make sure that we have strong opposition parties that can stand and say no. In times of problems I would invite them.”

Addressing the current security and economic challenges facing the northern region, Obi emphasized that a collaborative approach across party lines remains essential to finding lasting answers.

“If I was president with what is happening in the North, I would invite all opposition parties and I would sit with stakeholders in the North to discuss and come up with a solutions,” he added.
