32 Die in Multiple Road Crashes Across Kwara, Kogi and Ogun

At least 32 people have d!ed and several others sustained injuries following multiple road crashes in Kwara, Kogi, and Ogun states.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the accidents, which occurred between Sunday and Monday, attributing them to traffic violations including speeding, dangerous driving, driver fatigue, poor tyre maintenance, and the illegal practice of conveying passengers alongside goods.

The latest incidents have added to growing concerns over the recurring pattern of fatal crashes on Nigerian roads.

The FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, in a statement issued on Monday, described the crashes as heartbreaking and entirely preventable, noting that repeated violations of established traffic regulations continue to undermine national efforts to improve road safety.

He urged motorists, transport companies, and commercial vehicle operators to prioritise safety by ensuring only roadworthy vehicles ply the highways, warning that the Corps would sustain aggressive enforcement against all traffic violations that endanger lives.

15 d!e in Kwara

Fifteen people lost their lives, while 17 others sustained varying degrees of injuries, in the early hours of Monday after a trailer conveying dozens of passengers cr@shed along the Ogbomoso–Oloru road in Kwara State.

The lone accident occurred at about 2:32am near a cemetery in Oko-Olowo, involving a DAF XF trailer driven by an identified motorist.

A total of 48 male occupants were involved in the cr@sh. Fifteen were confirmed d£ad at the scene, while 17 others suffered injuries including fractures, dislocations, and bruises. Sixteen occupants escaped unhurt.

The injured were evacuated to two separate medical facilities for treatment, and residents said the bodies of those who d!ed were released to their families through a community leader following necessary procedures.

The Kwara Sector Commander of the FRSC confirmed the incident on Monday. He was at the scene coordinating rescue and recovery operations and said preliminary findings attributed the cr@sh to driver fatigue.

10 k!lled in Ogun

Ten passengers d!ed, and six others sustained injuries, in a road accident along the Lagos–Ibadan expressway in Ogun State on Sunday night.

The accident occurred at a bridge at about 8:05pm, involving a truck and a commercial bus.

The FRSC spokesperson in Ogun State said 18 passengers were involved in the accident, of whom 10 d!ed, six sustained injuries, and two escaped unhurt.

He said preliminary investigation revealed that the cr@sh was caused by speed violation, wrongful overtaking, and dangerous driving.

He explained that rescue operatives arrived promptly at the scene and evacuated the injured to hospital for treatment, while the deceased were deposited at a mortuary.

Kogi road cr@sh claims 7 lives

In Kogi State, seven people d!ed in a road accident on the Okene-Lokoja road at Osara settlement in Adavi Local Government Area.

The bus, travelling to Abuja from Auchi, was involved in the accident on Sunday afternoon.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle and rammed into a stationary truck, k!lling the driver and a motor mate who were fixing a punctured tyre on the trailer at the time.

The FRSC sector commander in Kogi State said the incident occurred at about 12:30pm on Sunday near the settlement, explaining that the driver was travelling at high speed when he experienced a tyre burst, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.

He said seven persons, including the motor mate of the truck driver, d!ed on the spot, while three persons survived.

The injured were taken to hospital for treatment, while the deceased were deposited at another hospital for autopsy.
