Alake vows to strengthen public communication of government policies

Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake, has vowed to strengthen public communication of government policies following his conferment as a Fellow of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON).

The fellowship was conferred on the minister during a ceremony at his office in Abuja in recognition of his contributions to strategic communication, ethical public engagement and national development.

Speaking after receiving the honor, Alake thanked ARCON for recognizing his contributions to the communications profession and public service, and vowed to ensure that Nigerians are better informed. He described the fellowship as a validation of the critical role of effective communication in governance.

He said the recognition would further reinforce his commitment to openness, accountability and sustained engagement with citizens, investors, host communities and other stakeholders in advancing the Renewed Hope agenda for the solid minerals sector.

Alake also pledged to improve the communication of government policies and programmes to ensure the public is well informed and better understands ongoing reforms.

Earlier, ARCON Director-General, Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo, said the fellowship was a fitting recognition of a leader who has effectively deployed strategic communication to drive reforms in Nigeria’s mining sector.

“Since assuming office, Mr. Alake has combined policy innovation with purposeful public engagement to reposition the solid minerals sector as a major pillar of economic diversification. Through transparent communication and sustained stakeholder engagement, the Ministry has deepened investor confidence, built public trust in ongoing reforms, and amplified awareness of key policy initiatives, including the fight against illegal mining, the promotion of mineral beneficiation, value addition, and the attraction of responsible investments,” Fadolapo said.

He added that the fellowship also recognized Alake’s distinguished career in journalism and strategic communications before joining government.

“Before joining the government, he distinguished himself through decades of impactful journalism and strategic communications, earning widespread respect for his professionalism, integrity, and dedication to nation-building,” he said.

According to ARCON, the fellowship recognises Alake’s outstanding contributions to strategic communication, ethical public engagement and national development, as well as his commitment to professionalism and excellence throughout his career.
