Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has filed a five billion naira defamation suit against the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Abia State, Mr. Uche Aguoru over alleged defamation.

The matter was filed before the High Court of Abia State, Umuahia Judicial Division, in suit No.HU/ 126/ 2026 with Governor Otti Otti as the claimant, while Uche Aguoru is the defendant.

The suit arose from publications allegedly made by the defendant against the Governor on social media.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kenneth Ahia, is representing Governor Otti in the case.

According to the suit, Aguoru allegedly accused the Abia State Governor of corruption, diversion of public funds, abuse of office, political inducement, interference in the affairs of another political party, and judicial intimidation.

Governor Otti maintained that the allegations are false, malicious, and defamatory and is asking the Court to declare the publications defamatory, compel the defendant to retract the allegations and publish an unreserved apology.

He is praying the Court to restrain Aguoru from making further similar publications, and award 5 billion naira in damages, alongside the cost of the action.

When contacted, Aguoru confirmed that he was sued by Governor Otti.

Aguoru, who said that his lawyers have responded to the notice, said the case was an attempt by the Governor to shut every opposing voice ahead of the upcoming elections.
