Arokodare set for Ajax medical

 Nigeria international Tolu Arokodare is closing in on a loan move to Ajax, with the striker scheduled to undergo a medical in the Netherlands on Tuesday (today), PidomNigeria Sports Extra reports.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers forward has been heavily linked with an exit from Molineux following the club’s relegation from the Premier League. Reports last week also claimed he was involved in a training-ground dispute after being informed he would not take part in a first-team session amid ongoing transfer negotiations.

He, however, denied the claim, claiming he was only fulfilling his contractual obligations.

Arokodare joined Wolves from Belgian side Genk for £24m last summer but endured a difficult debut campaign, scoring six goals in 38 appearances during the 2025/26 season.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Ajax have now reached a club-to-club agreement with Wolves for a season-long loan deal that includes an option to buy.

While it has not been confirmed whether the purchase clause is optional or mandatory, the overall package is reported to be worth €20m (£17.1m).

The Dutch giants are said to regard the 25-year-old as a priority signing as new head coach Michel aims to restore Ajax to the summit of the Eredivisie.

Nigerian broadcaster and transfer insider Buchi Laba also reported that Arokodare is keen on the move, having attracted Ajax’s interest before joining Wolves last year.

The striker is also reported to have turned down an approach from Turkish club Trabzonspor, while Italian sides Fiorentina and Genoa were unable to reach an agreement with Wolves.

Having signed a four-year contract only last summer, Wolves were understood to be seeking at least £18m to avoid recording a loss on the striker in this transfer window.

Although Arokodare managed just six goals in 38 appearances for Wolves, Ajax are believed to have been encouraged by his prolific spell at Genk, where he scored 41 goals and provided 12 assists in 113 appearances. His standout campaign came in the 2024/25 season, when he registered 23 goals for the Belgian club.
