Gusau hands Nnadozie promised WAFCON house papers

Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has received the documents for the house promised to each member of Nigeria’s 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations-winning squad, The PidomNigeria reports.

The Nigeria Football Federation announced the presentation on Monday via its official X account.

In a photograph shared by the federation, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, alongside the federation’s Director of Competitions, Ruth David, presented the property documents to the goalkeeper.

As of the time of filing this report, the NFF had yet to confirm whether the documents had also been presented to the other members of the title-winning squad.

Nigeria claimed a record-extending 10th WAFCON title last year, coming from two goals down to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 in the final.

Following the historic triumph, President Bola Tinubu announced rewards of $100,000 for each player, $50,000 for every member of the backroom staff and a house for each member of the victorious team.

Although the promises were made immediately after the victory, the players had not publicly confirmed receiving the cash rewards, while the housing documents had also not been presented until Monday’s announcement by the NFF.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, had disclosed last weekend that the presentation was deliberately scheduled to coincide with the team’s assembly for this year’s tournament in Morocco, where the Super Falcons begin the defence of their title against Malawi on Tuesday (today).

“I am leaving Glasgow for Morocco this week to present keys to the houses, which His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, promised the Super Falcons after they won the last edition of the WAFCON. Even their $100,000 has been paid into their various bank accounts,” Dikko said.

“We decided to delay the presentation of the keys because we wanted a situation whereby the players would be together. I am sure it will boost their morale ahead of the 2026 WAFCON, which kicks off in Morocco in a few days.”

Dikko also stated that the players’ cash rewards had been paid into their respective bank accounts after the completion of the necessary administrative processes.

Nigeria enter the 2026 WAFCON, which runs from July 26 to August 16 in Morocco, as defending champions and record 10-time winners. The Super Falcons will face debutants Malawi in their opening Group C match on Tuesday before taking on Zambia on Saturday, August 1, and Egypt four days later.

The tournament also serves as Africa’s qualifying competition for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, with the four semi-finalists securing automatic qualification and one additional team advancing through the intercontinental play-offs.
