APC accuses Adeleke’s ‘thugs’ of killing, injuring its supporters

The Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council has strongly condemned the coordinated attacks carried out on members and supporters of the party and its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), in Osogbo, the state capital, on Wednesday night by thugs allegedly loyal to Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The Head of Media and Publicity of the Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council, Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, said this in a statement.
In the statement on Thursday, Omowaiye said: “Visiting the morgues and hospitals where the victims of yesterday’s attacks were deposited or receiving treatments, the Campaign Council experienced first hand that the attacks left two persons feared dead and several others, no fewer than 10 persons, seriously injured.
“Two of the victims killed in the incident have been identified as Adelodun Lateef Olalekan, popularly known as Lexy and Mr Waheed Adigun, both strong members of the Osun APC.
“Another staunch member of the party, a woman, was shot in the buttocks while she was attending the AMBO meeting in Igbona area of Osogbo.
“The Campaign Council notes that the attacks according to an eyewitness were led by an appointee of Governor Ademola Adeleke, Nurudeen Alowonle, in conjunction with individuals identified as Esubiyi and Taoreed Ademola (Small Rugged).
“Both Esubiyi and Small Rugged were on the Order of Governor Adeleke recently released from prisons and have been involved in violent attacks against APC members and supporters in recent days.
“The suspects, according to eyewitness accounts, were seen moving around Osogbo in an 18-seater bus (Hummer bus), targeting APC members.
“The Council also alleges Nurudeen Alowonle and Emir Ajagungbade have, for several months, been taking refuge within the Osun Government House despite being wanted by security agencies in connection with serious criminal allegations.
“We call on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and all relevant security agencies to immediately investigate the incident, apprehend all those found culpable, and ensure that justice is served.
“The APC Campaign Council appeals to the good people of Osun State and the general public to prevail on Governor Ademola Adeleke to rise above political pettiness, bitterness, and desperation, and to act responsibly in the interest of peace and democratic stability in the state.
“The immediate reaction of the state governor that the attacks were cult-related is unfortunate and wicked, and a confirmation that Governor Adeleke is an enabler of violence and killings in the state because of his desperation for the underserved second term ambition.
“The Council believes that Governor Adeleke will not enjoy immunity forever, therefore will one day account for all allegations of violence and political killings of the innocent citizens of the state whose only offence is identifying with and supporting the All Progressives Congress ( APC).
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and pray for the speedy recovery of all those injured in the attacks.”
