Broadcaster’s Murder: Police arraign 22-year-old suspect, two others

The Ogun State Police Command on Monday confirmed that the three suspects arrested in connection with the alleged murder of former Ogun State Television broadcaster, Kitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, will be arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Abeokuta.

The spokesperson for the command, Babaseyi Oluseyi, confirmed the development in a statement.

“The Ogun State Police Command wishes to inform members of the media that the three suspects arrested in connection with the murder of Madam Kitan Oyesiku and her security guard will be arraigned today, Monday, July 6, 2026, at Magistrate Court 3, Isabo, Abeokuta, by 11:30 am,” Oluseyi stated.

The arraignment comes less than two weeks after the police announced the arrest of the suspects following the gruesome killings at the broadcaster’s residence in Abeokuta.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, had earlier explained during a press briefing that investigators made a breakthrough after recovering a note from inside the victim’s stolen Lexus RX330.

Forensic analysis of the note led detectives to the prime suspect.

The prime suspect, 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer.

Further investigations led to the arrest of two accomplices, Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, a 27-year-old security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, a 36-year-old bricklayer.

According to the police, Philip confessed to planning the attack due to a personal grudge he held against Oyesiku from his time working as her security guard.

He claimed the murder was intended to “teach her a lesson.”

The suspects reportedly overpowered the current guard, Adetayo, at his post to gain access to the main compound, where both victims were subsequently killed.

Detectives who initially visited the scene reported signs of forced entry and a struggle.

Adetayo’s body was found at the security post, while Oyesiku’s body was discovered inside the main building.

The stolen vehicle was later recovered through technical tracking in the Onikolobo area of the state.

Police also recovered several weapons linked to the crime, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a wooden plank, and a black pen.
