Sokoto gov unveils two kilometres road network

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, on Monday unveiled the Buzaye Road Network, saying his administration will continue to prioritise infrastructure projects aimed at improving residents’ living standards and driving economic growth across the state.

The project comprises Argungu Road, Gobir Road, Lanzu Road and other connecting roads, covering a combined distance of about two kilometres.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the governor described road infrastructure as a critical foundation for sustainable socio-economic development, noting that the newly completed roads would ease transportation challenges, improve connectivity and stimulate commercial activities in the area.

“Road infrastructure remains one of the most critical foundations for sustainable socio-economic development.

“Well-constructed roads facilitate the efficient movement of people and goods, improve access to residential communities, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, markets and business centres, while also strengthening security and stimulating economic growth,” Aliyu said.

He added that the Buzaye Road Network would “significantly ease transportation challenges, improve connectivity within the community, increase commercial activities, and enhance the overall quality of life for residents and visitors alike.”

The governor explained that the project forms part of his administration’s Urban Renewal Programme, which he said is transforming the physical landscape of the Sokoto metropolis through strategic infrastructure investments.

“Infrastructure development extends beyond the construction of roads and buildings; it is an investment in human development, economic opportunity and the long-term prosperity of our people,” he said.

Aliyu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to equitable development across the state, stressing that every part of Sokoto would benefit from people-oriented projects.

He commended the Ministry of Lands and Housing, contractors, consultants, engineers and other stakeholders for the successful execution of the project, while also appreciating residents of the Buzaye community for their cooperation throughout the construction period.

The governor urged residents to safeguard the roads, saying public infrastructure belongs to everyone and must be properly maintained for future generations.

“As we commission this road network today, I urge residents, motorists and all users to take collective ownership of this valuable public asset by ensuring its proper use, safeguarding it against misuse and supporting its maintenance,” he said.

Aliyu also assured the people of Sokoto State that his administration would sustain the delivery of projects designed to expand economic opportunities and promote inclusive development.

“We remain resolute in delivering people-centred policies and transformative projects that reflect our vision of a modern, prosperous, secure and inclusive Sokoto State,” he said.

The governor also appreciated President Bola Tinubu for ongoing infrastructure development across the country before inviting the Governor of Taraba State, Agbu Kefas, who attended the event as the special guest, to formally commission the road network.
