Daniel dismisses viral audio as doctored, alleges political blackmail

The media office of former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD), has dismissed a purported leaked private conversation allegedly involving the former governor and a respected elder statesman, describing the recording as manipulated and deliberately doctored.
This was contained in a statement that was issued by the media office of the former two-term Ogun State governor on Wednesday.
The OGD Media Office said it had been inundated with enquiries over the circulating audio, insisting that it was part of a calculated attempt to damage the former governor’s reputation and advance a political agenda.
According to the statement, the office became aware of the recording more than six weeks ago after it was allegedly deployed as an instrument of political blackmail, coercion, intimidation and other criminal purposes.
The statement read: “The audio in circulation is a manipulated and deliberately doctored material, calculated to mislead the public, malign the reputation of His Excellency, and advance a premeditated political agenda.”
The media office disclosed that law enforcement agencies had been formally invited to investigate the origin of the recording, those responsible for its alleged manipulation and dissemination, as well as the motives behind its circulation.
It also said its legal team had been directed to pursue both civil and criminal actions against individuals or groups linked to what it described as an orchestrated campaign of defamation and cybercrime.
“Accordingly, the appropriate law enforcement agencies have been formally invited to investigate the source of the recording, those responsible for its manipulation and dissemination, and the criminal motives behind its circulation.”
The statement added: “In addition, our legal team has been instructed to pursue all available civil and criminal remedies against every individual or group connected with this orchestrated campaign of calumny, defamation, malicious falsehood, and cybercrime.”
“This shenanigans must stop in our body politics.”
