A 45-year-old man, Abubakar Abdullahi, and his teenage daughter, Fiddausi Abubakar, have d!ed after falling into an abandoned dry well in Yancibi Village, Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State on Monday, July 21.

Confirming the tragic incident to newsmen, the public relations officer of the Kano State Fire Service, ACFO Saminu Abdullahi, in a statement released, said the Tsanyawa Fire Service Office received a distress call on the evening of Monday, July 21, reporting that Abubakar Abdullahi and his 15-year-old daughter, Fiddausi Abubakar, had fallen into the well.

The statement said firefighters from the Tsanyawa branch immediately responded and attempted to rescue the victims but were unable to complete the operation due to darkness and difficult conditions at the scenes.

It added that an emergency rescue team from the Fire Service headquarters was deployed early Tuesday to support the operation.

“Our rescue team successfully recovered the victims from the well. They were brought out unconscious and were later confirmed dead” the statement said

The Fire Service said the bodies were handed over to the Village Head of Yancibi, Shamsu Sani.

Preliminary findings indicated that the teenage girl accidentally fell into the well, while her father reportedly entered the well in an attempt to rescue her but also became trapped.

“The girl accidentally fell into the well. Her father attempted to rescue her but was unable to escape, resulting in the tragic loss of both lives” the statement added

The Fire Service expressed condolences to the bereaved family and urged residents to avoid entering wells without proper rescue equipment and trained emergency personnel.
