Edo ADC warns expelled former chairman to cease using party name

The Edo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has warned its expelled former chairman, Kennedy Odion, to stop using the party’s name and materials, saying he no longer has the authority to speak or act on its behalf.
The warning was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the state chairman of the party, Tony Alile.
Alile said Odion was expelled from the party after disciplinary proceedings concluded during the ADC National Convention held in Abuja on April 14, 2026.
He added that the tenure of the state executive committee under which Odion served also ended on May 19, 2026.
According to the statement, party records showed that Odion was expelled after disciplinary proceedings concluded at the ADC National Convention held in Abuja on April 14, 2026.
“The tenure of the State Executive Committee under which he served expired on May 19, 2026,” the statement added.
The party maintained that Odion is no longer recognised as either a member or an official of the ADC.
Despite this, Alile alleged that the former chairman has continued to issue statements and hold meetings in the name of the party.
“The ADC regards these actions as unauthorised and misleading,” he said.
He also claimed that there had been previous incidents involving the unauthorised use of party facilities and circulation of party-related materials, adding that the issues were being handled through the appropriate channels.
Alile reaffirmed the party’s commitment to strengthening democratic opposition in Edo State and across Nigeria, saying the ADC remains united and focussed on providing credible leadership.
However, when contacted for his reaction, Odion dismissed the claims.
“They are dwelling in the highest form of self-deceit,” he said.
