The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has temporarily closed down Marmatan Natural Mineral Sachet Water Company located at Amasaman for allegedly operating without the required licence and failing to meet acceptable hygiene standards.
According to the FDA, the company was found to be producing sachet water under conditions that did not comply with established health and safety requirements.
The regulatory body stated that inspections conducted at the facility revealed serious sanitation concerns, including the poor condition of the production environment, wells, and poly tanks used in the water processing system.
The FDA explained that the closure forms part of its routine enforcement efforts aimed at protecting consumers and ensuring that manufacturers of food and water products operate within approved safety guidelines.
Authorities have consistently warned sachet water producers to maintain strict hygiene practices, including proper maintenance of production facilities, storage tanks, and water sources, to prevent contamination and protect public health.
The temporary shutdown means the company will not be allowed to continue production until it addresses the identified concerns and obtains the necessary approvals from the FDA.
The development has renewed calls for consumers to be cautious when purchasing sachet water and to patronise products from companies that meet regulatory requirements.
The FDA is expected to continue monitoring the situation and take further action depending on whether the company complies with the required standards before resuming operations.
