Ikoyi Club 1938 to host 29th Nigeria Golf Champs

Ikoyi Club 1938 in Lagos will host the 29th edition of the Nigeria Cup, the country’s oldest-running Independence Celebration Golf Championship, from September 19 to 27, 2026, with organisers describing preparations as being in full swing.

The tournament, organised by the Ikoyi Golf Community Nigeria Association in collaboration with Ikoyi Club 1938, will build on nearly three decades of tradition while aiming to set new standards in organisation, competition and stakeholder experience.

Chairman of the Organising Committee, Olorogun Mohammed Oyibo, described the 2026 edition as a defining chapter in the Championship’s history, saying it was born of legacy and built for greatness. He said the committee was not simply organising another tournament but building upon a legacy that had inspired generations of golfers, adding that the responsibility was to deliver a championship that honoured that history while setting new standards in competition, organisation and hospitality.

“Our partners are investing in far more than a golf Championship. They are aligning their brands with a legacy that celebrates excellence, leadership and national pride.

“Together, we have the opportunity to create an experience that will endure long after the final putt is made while strengthening one of Nigeria’s most enduring sporting traditions,” he said.

Oyibo said the Organising Committee was working across competition, hospitality, sponsorship, media, branding, logistics and participant services to ensure a seamless experience worthy of the Nigeria Cup’s standing. He called on corporate organisations, institutions and private individuals to support the championship, describing sponsorship as an opportunity to align with a legacy that extended well beyond the golf course.

According to him, partners investing in the tournament were aligning their brands with excellence, leadership and national pride, and had the opportunity to create an experience that would endure long after the final putt.

The chairman also paid tribute to the sponsors, members and supporters whose commitment had sustained the Nigeria Cup through 29 editions, and invited new partners to join a legacy that continued to unite generations through sport, friendship and shared purpose. Organisers confirmed the 2026 edition will feature a Championship Watch Party and a Sunday evening Legacy Gala, two signature experiences designed to extend the celebration beyond the fairways.
