JUST IN: Why state police may bring more problems in Nigeria – Ordinary President

The host of Brekete Family, a Human Rights Radio and Television programme, Ahmed Isah, popularly known as the ‘Ordinary President,’ has warned against the establishment of state police.
The TV host, who spoke during the Brekete Family programme, expressed pessimism about the effectiveness of state police, predicting that it would be abused by state governors.
According to him, some governors may use the outfit for their selfish gain, stressing that the creation of state police may bring “more division,” especially in states with different ethnic groups.
“For example, if you have state police in Benue, for instance, which tribe among the Idoma and Tiv would the Commissioner of Police come from?” he asked.
He predicted that once a certain tribe is heading the state police, the other tribe may suffer.
The TV host cited some instances where state governors allegedly called for the removal of Commissioners of Police who refused to dance to their tune.
According to him, governors who abuse even the federal police will not do better when state police is created.
“State governors decide whether a Commissioner of Police should stay in their state or not.
“Some even decide the army commander that should be sent to the state. What do you expect when they have state police?” he said.
