Kenneth Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), urged President Bola Tinubu on Friday to quit rather than contest the 2027 elections.
Okonkwo made the call on a television programme on Friday, where he discussed the now-overturned Abuja Federal High Court decision that deregistered the ADC.
He said everything about the judgment appears geared toward frustrating the opposition and effectively coronating Tinubu, in his view, at the instance of the Minister of Aviation, rather than allowing Nigerians to elect him in 2027.
Arguing that Tinubu’s performance in office would see him return to Bourdillon with just one flight ticket after 2027.
He questioned the state of insecurity in the country, saying that when citing examples one need not look only to recent events since such incidents occur daily, pointing to what he described as people being ma$$acred in large numbers in Plateau and Benue.
And be-headed in Oyo State, while the government expects praise for tragedies it should have prevented in the first place.
He argued that loss of life is better prevented than remedied afterward, since d£ath is final once it occurs.
He then shared what he described as a personal and painful account, saying that his worker’s mother was ab-ducted in Kaduna State, with the kidn@ppers demanding a ransom the family could not raise, after which two of her fingers were reportedly broken.
He said the worker is his mother’s only child, and that witnessing such pain firsthand illustrates how much worse the reality is compared to what is publicly reported, noting that many such cases go unreported.
He concluded by asserting that, given the situation, Tinubu should not even allow the election to hold and should instead resign and go in peace.
