Church members and sympathizers of the Kristo Asafo Mission have turned out in large numbers to celebrate the life and legacy of Apostle Prof. Emeritus Ing. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka during his final funeral rites at Gomoa Mpota, defying a High Court injunction that sought to halt the proceedings.
Videos from the scene show a sea of red and black-clad mourners under the Ashanti Region canopy, cheering, waving, and dancing rather than mourning quietly, as the ceremony took on the atmosphere of a jubilant homegoing celebration rather than a solemn farewell.
The turnout reflects the widespread affection many Ghanaians hold for the late industrialist, whose innovations in automobile manufacturing placed his Kantanka brand at the heart of the country’s indigenous technology movement.
The celebrations come despite an Accra High Court order granting a 10-day interim injunction restraining former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo from proceeding with the burial, following a legal challenge from the Kristo Asafo Mission over the estate of its late founder.
Regional delegations, including large contingents from the Ashanti Region, were seen among the thousands who defied the legal cloud to be present.
As proceedings continued live at the venue, it remained unclear how the ongoing court dispute would ultimately affect the ceremony’s legal standing, even as the crowd on the ground showed no signs of holding back their celebration of the Apostle’s life.
