Lagos introduces automated childcare services for orphanages

The Commissioner for Youths and Social Development, Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende, has announced the introduction of automated childcare services for efficient child welfare administration for orphanage homes across Lagos.
Mobolaji made this known at the 2026 stakeholders’ meeting on adoption, guardianship and fostering matters in Lagos State, held on Tuesday at Ikeja.
The commissioner said the automated childcare services would improve efficiency, accountability, transparency, record management, monitoring, inter-agency coordination and public confidence in child welfare administration.
He said: “You can imagine the transformation that will take place with digitalisation.
“Lagos state will always set the pace for others.”
Speaking during the event, Mr Silas Gyang, Country Manager, Both Ends Believing (BEB), said that the organisation’s partnership with Lagos State would foster effective childcare service delivery.
Gyang said the collaboration would introduce a software that would help the government automate the activities of home operators across Lagos State.
“This tool will help in turning orphanage homes into child placement centers and promote the culture of adoption amongst the homes and the state.
“It will prepare adult children for success as the age out of the orphanages. It will also give the government tools for making informed data-based decisions for the welfare of the children.
“This will make child welfare system more seamless and reduce the burden that comes with loss of information as a result of man made and natural disaster”, he said.
He said that the system would make every child visible and their data actionable.
According to Gyang, the software will enable the government monitor better the activities of orphanages, combat trafficking and fish out the bad eggs among the homes.
He advocated for more partnership for improved service delivery.
