‘Miracle Centre Presidential Candidate’ – Presidency Mocks Peter Obi

emocratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, describing him as a “miracle centre presidential candidate” amid a fresh exchange over calls for a public debate.

The remark came from President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, following comments made by Obi during a recent interview in which he spoke about the possibility of debating the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi.

Obi had stated that he would only engage Umahi in a debate after the minister becomes the presidential candidate of a political party. His comment was in response to Umahi’s earlier challenge, where the minister expressed readiness to publicly debate the former Anambra State governor on issues relating to infrastructure development, particularly road projects across the country.

Reacting to Obi’s position, Bwala questioned the former Labour Party presidential candidate’s own path to the presidential race. He argued that Obi lacked the moral authority to set conditions for others seeking higher political office.

According to Bwala, Obi did not pass through the conventional process of contesting and winning a presidential primary election before emerging as a presidential candidate.

In a post shared on X, the presidential aide wrote: “Peter Obi is telling Chude on his podcast that if H.E Dave Umah    wants to debate him, he should first qualify as a presidential candidate first.

“Funny; the Peter Obi @PeterObi how did he qualify to be a presidential candidate? Did he (Peter Obi) participate in any presidential primaries?

“In fact has he ever participated in any presidential primaries? Imagine a miracle centre presidential candidate questioning a successful governor and performing minister on qualifications.”

The latest exchange adds to the growing political tensions ahead of the 2027 general election, as key political figures continue to trade words over governance, infrastructure and leadership credentials.

Umahi, who has repeatedly defended the Tinubu administration’s infrastructure agenda, has in recent months highlighted several ongoing federal road projects as evidence of the government’s commitment to national development. The minister has also challenged critics of the administration to assess projects on the basis of visible results.

Obi, on the other hand, has remained one of the most vocal opposition figures in the country. He has consistently raised concerns about economic hardship, governance and public accountability, while calling for reforms aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians.
