Nigeria seek final spots at ITTF Africa Youth Champs

Nigeria’s quest for titles at the 2026 ITTF Africa Youth Championships enters a decisive stage on Wednesday as the country’s U-15 girls, U-19 boys and U-19 girls teams battle for places in their respective finals at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra, Ghana.
The Nigerians remain in contention across three events after a string of impressive performances, setting up blockbuster semi-final clashes against some of the continent’s traditional table tennis powerhouses.
In the U-15 girls’ event, Nigeria will renew their rivalry with top seeds Egypt in the first semi-final, while defending champions Algeria take on Tunisia in the other last-four encounter.
The U-19 boys booked their place in the semi-finals with a commanding 3-0 victory over hosts Ghana in the quarter-finals.
Nigeria’s Quadri Atunwon produced the standout performance of the tie, recovering from two games down to defeat Ghana’s Israel Aklie 3-2 after trailing 2-0, silencing the home crowd in the process.
Matthew Fabunmi and Sultan Agunbiade then wrapped up the tie with straight games victories over their Ghanaian opponents.
Elsewhere, Egypt swept aside Uganda 3-0 despite an early scare from Joseph Sebantidira, Tunisia brushed aside Togo 3-0, while Algeria defeated South Africa 3-1.
Nigeria will now face Tunisia in the semi-finals, while Egypt and Algeria meet in the other last-four clash.
In the U-19 girls’ category, Nigeria will take on Algeria for a place in the final, while defending champions Egypt face Uganda in the other semi-final.
With several teams already eliminated, Wednesday’s matches are expected to produce intense rivalries as Africa’s leading youth table tennis nations battle for places in the championship finals.
