Okaikwei North MP Storms CalBank, Nearly ‘Beats’ Workers And Manager Over Non-Participation In National Clean-Up Exercise

The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North was filmed angrily confronting staff at a CalBank branch, accusing the bank of disregarding President John Dramani Mahama’s directive for institutions to participate in the ongoing National General Cleaning Exercise.

In the video circulating on social media, the MP is seen visibly upset, raising her voice as she addresses bank staff, including approaching what appears to be the branch manager, over the bank’s apparent failure to join the clean-up effort.

The two-day exercise, which began Friday, July 10, and continues through Saturday, July 11, was declared by President Mahama following deadly flooding that struck Accra and other parts of the country on June 29.

Okaikwei North is among the Greater Accra municipalities specifically listed as part of the 104 flood-prone locations targeted in the exercise.

The exact branch of CalBank involved has not been independently confirmed, though the presence of the area’s MP suggests the bank is situated within the Okaikwei North constituency.

CalBank has not issued a public statement addressing the confrontation as of the time of filing this report.

The clean-up exercise has seen active participation from MPs, MMDCEs, security agencies and the general public, with several legislators publicly urging constituents and local businesses to comply with the directive.
