Peter Obi Faces Fresh Aviation Petition Over Alleged Passenger Identity Issue

Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is facing a fresh petition alleging that he travelled with passengers using fake identities.

The petition, dated July 12, 2026, was submitted to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, with copies sent to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

It was written by an individual who identified himself as a concerned employee within Nigeria’s aviation industry, requesting an urgent probe into what he described as repeated breaches of aviation security, regulatory compliance and passenger safety involving Obi and a female passenger.

According to the petitioner, the passenger, described as one of Obi’s media aides, had previously been barred by Air Peace over repeated misconduct and confrontations at airports.

The petition alleged that she continued flying on the airline under different names following the ban, with Obi allegedly accompanying her on several occasions and making arrangements that enabled her to keep travelling under alternate identities despite the restriction.

The petitioner claimed that such conduct undermines aviation security, compromises passenger identification procedures, and interferes with the airline’s ability to enforce its safety measures.

He further alleged that airport staff were repeatedly obstructed from carrying out proper identity checks whenever Obi travelled with the passenger, claiming that Obi intervened each time staff attempted to verify her identity, even after she had been flagged by ground personnel.

The petitioner stated that flight tickets have been attached as evidence, adding that Obi’s name reportedly appears on some of the Passenger Name Records.
