Police arrest 23-year-old man over m8rder of varsity professor and his brother in Benue


The Benue State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, identified as Abdullahi Usman, in connection with the m8rder of a lecturer at Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (formerly Benue State University), Professor Gabriel Nyityo.
LIB reported that the distinguished History Professor was k!lled at his residence in the Adaka community, Makurdi Local Government Area of the state in the early hours of Wednesday, July 8, 2026.
The spokesperson for the command, DSP Udeme Edet, who disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, July 9, 2026, confirmed his younger brother, John Nyityo, was also k!lled.
According to the PPRO, officers attached to the ‘D’ Division received a distress call from the Adaka axis, where they discovered two d3ad bodies.
“One Prof. Gabriel Saawua Nyityo ‘m’, 58yrs, and his younger brother, one Iorngee John Nyityo ‘m’, 19yrs, were k!lled by unknown gunmen,” the statement read.
The suspect, one Abdullahi Usman, 23yrs, of Awe, Nasarawa State, has been arrested in connection with the crime and investigation is still going on to get the remaining suspects.”
