Wanted Bandit Kingpin Captured in Delta Forest as Police Rescue Kidnap Victim

Warri – Fresh details have emerged on how operatives of the Delta State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad, working in collaboration with SafeCity Security Service, arrested a suspected notorious bandit, Abubakar Usman, during a raid on his hideout in the Ogwashi-Uku/Adonta Forest.

The suspect was apprehended after a fierce gun battle between the joint security team and members of the criminal gang. The operation followed the abduction of Mrs. Blessing Chiedu, a native of Umunede Kingdom, who was kidnapped on July 2, 2026, along the Ani-Ifekide Farm Road in Ubulu-Uku.

Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu disclosed the development in a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account. He revealed that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of ₦100 million from the victim’s family.

According to Gwamnishu, he immediately alerted security authorities upon receiving information about the kidnapping, prompting the Delta State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad in Asaba, led by CSP Osakpolor, to launch a rescue operation.

He explained that the operation was supported by the SafeCity Hydra Tech Surveillance System, which helped security operatives locate the kidnappers and rescue the victim.

“Using our Hydra Tech Surveillance System, a coordinated rescue operation was launched, and Mrs. Blessing Chiedu was rescued alive and unharmed along the Ubulu-Unor/Ashama Road,” he stated.

Following the successful rescue, security operatives intensified efforts to track down the fleeing kidnappers. At about 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday, the surveillance system reportedly traced the gang to its hideout in the Ogwashi-Uku/Adonta Forest.

A gun duel ensued, during which the joint security team overpowered the suspects. Abubakar Usman, described as one of the most wanted members of the gang, was arrested, while other suspects escaped deeper into the forest with their weapons.

Gwamnishu alleged that the gang had been responsible for several kidnapping incidents across Igbodo, Umunede and neighbouring communities, extorting millions of naira in ransom from victims’ families.

He commended the Delta State Government, led by Governor , for creating an enabling environment for security operations. He also praised the Commissioner of Police, the officers and men of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad in Asaba, and DSP Paul Xdot for their commitment to the operation.

He further acknowledged the contributions of the Nigeria Forest Security Service Area Command, the Ubulu-Uku Anti-Cult Group, Ward 5B Councillor Hon. Okocha Martins, Chairman of Aniocha South Local Government Area Pastor Jude Chukwuweike, and the Mayor of Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon. Shadrack Azubuike, for their support during the operation.

“Our commitment to protecting lives and securing our communities remains unwavering. We will continue to work tirelessly with security agencies and community stakeholders to ensure that criminals have no hiding place,” Gwamnishu said.

As of the time of filing this report, the Delta State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the operation, as Police Public Relations Officer had not publicly commented on the incident.
