‘What offence has Borgu committed’ – Youth leader questions government over insecurity

The Youth President of Borgu Kingdom, Comrade Abdullahi Yahaya Sadauki, has questioned what he described as the continued neglect of Borgu amid worsening insecurity, asking, “What offence has Borgu committed to deserve this neglect?”

In a statement made available to journalists on Sunday, Sadauki appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Niger State Governor Umar Mohammed Bago, security agencies, and other relevant authorities to take urgent steps to restore peace and security across the kingdom.

While acknowledging ongoing efforts by the government and security agencies to tackle insecurity, he said the situation in Borgu remained critical, with communities experiencing repeated attacks, loss of lives, displacement of residents, and destruction of property.

According to him, communities including Konkoso, Kasuwan Daji, Pissa, Gangale, Woro, Tungan Makeri, Old Gangale, Boiya, Bakinba, and Wawa have been affected by the attacks, forcing many residents to flee their homes, while farmlands have been abandoned, livestock rustled, and businesses disrupted.

Sadauki also claimed that only schools in New Bussa and its environs have remained open since January 2026, while healthcare services in many affected communities have been severely disrupted by the insecurity.

He further lamented the destruction of the only bridge linking New Bussa, the headquarters of the Borgu Emirate, with other parts of the kingdom, saying it has remained abandoned for more than three months.

Describing Borgu as one of Nigeria’s strategic regions with vast agricultural potential, valuable natural resources, and important national assets, the youth leader called for increased deployment of security personnel, the establishment of Forward Operating Bases in vulnerable communities, improved intelligence gathering, stronger support for local vigilante groups, and the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the attacks.

He also appealed to humanitarian agencies to provide urgent relief materials, including food, shelter, and medical care for displaced persons, while calling for the immediate release of residents allegedly being held captive by bandits.

Sadauki urged the National Assembly, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organisations, and the media not to remain silent over the situation, insisting that the lives and property of Borgu residents deserve the same constitutional protection as those of every other Nigerian.

He reaffirmed the commitment of Borgu youths to cooperate with security agencies in restoring peace and warned that urgent action was needed to prevent further loss of lives and destruction across the kingdom.
