What to Know About Andrew Tate

This Video Is Trending Right Now
Andrew Tate, an online influencer known for his chauvinistic views and brash displays of wealth, and his brother Tristan were arrested by federal marshals in Miami last week after years of criminal investigations in three countries.
In Britain, the Tate brothers had been facing criminal charges of rape and trafficking. Their arrests came after prosecutors in Britain said they had authorized new charges against the brothers including rape, sex trafficking and assault, and were seeking their extradition.
In Romania, prosecutors have accused them of trafficking more than 30 women, including a 17-year-old, into their pornography operation. Andrew Tate has also been accused of rape, and of having sex with and beating a minor.
And in the United States, a New York Times investigation found, they have been under investigation by Homeland Security anti-trafficking agents and federal prosecutors since 2023. Last year, Florida’s attorney general opened a criminal investigation into the Tates.
Andrew and Tristan Tate have repeatedly denied all criminal allegations against them.
Who is Andrew Tate?
Mr. Tate, 39, is a British and American former kickboxer who has gained a huge following of young men by preaching mental and physical discipline, entrepreneurship, and the subjugation of women.
He and his brother have run a pornography business in Britain and Romania in which women performed live on webcams for paying customers.
They have sold online courses on money, fitness and dating.
Educators have warned that Mr. Tate’s sexist messaging is reaching young boys.
Several social media sites barred Mr. Tate in 2022 because of his content, but he has an active presence on X and Rumble.
What is he accused of in Britain?
Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service said on Sunday that the new charges against the Tate brothers stem from alleged offenses involving four women that took place between July 2010 and August 2017.
The new charges against Andrew Tate include seven counts of rape; three counts of sex trafficking; three counts of assault; and 19 more charges relating to sexual images of children and “extreme pornography.”
Tristan Tate, 38, faces two new charges of rape; one count of sexual assault; and three counts of sex trafficking.
The brothers have faced other criminal investigations in Britain. Three months ago, the police in Hertfordshire, north of London, said that they were reinvestigating 11-year-old allegations brought by three women who accused Andrew Tate of sexual assault.
The three women, and a fourth, are also suing him at the High Court in London over the allegations. Mr. Tate is fighting the civil claims.
What is he accused of in Romania?
In an indictment filed in June 2023, prosecutors in Romania accused Mr. Tate and his brother Tristan, 38, of forming an organized criminal group and trafficking seven women into their porn business. The indictment, obtained by The Times, said the Tates had tricked the women into believing they were in long-term relationships, then coerced them into making sexual content that was shared online. Andrew Tate was accused of raping a woman on two occasions.
A judge invalidated the indictment in December 2024 and sent it back to prosecutors, citing procedural mistakes.
Prosecutors are working to correct the mistakes and have expanded their case. In court documents, they have said they are investigating allegations that the brothers trafficked more than 30 women, including a 17-year-old. They also accused Andrew Tate of having sex with and beating a 15-year-old. The brothers and their associates, prosecutors said, made at least $2.8 million by exploiting the women.
The brothers have denied criminal wrongdoing and said that their wealth made them targets.
They have also said that women identified by investigators as trafficking victims do not see themselves that way.
For more than two years, the brothers were prohibited from leaving Romania as prosecutors built their case. That changed in February 2025, when the travel restrictions were lifted and the brothers were allowed to leave. Their first stop was the United States, and they have since flown in and out of Romania, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.
What is happening in the U.S.?
The Tate brothers have spent time in Florida, where they first arrived in February 2025 after the Romanian travel ban was lifted. Before their arrest in Miami, Andrew Tate had been advertised as a co-host for a bare-knuckle boxing event on Saturday night in downtown Miami.
After the arrest, many of their onetime allies on the American right pulled their support.
A Times investigation found that support from Trump administration officials played a crucial role in the brothers’ release from Romania. It was the culmination of a yearslong effort by Andrew to forge alliances with Mr. Trump’s advisers and family members, including Barron Trump.
But their visit to the United States in 2025 opened a rare rift among conservatives. Megyn Kelly and Ben Shapiro denounced the Tates. Some Republican leaders spoke out, too.
Anti-trafficking agents at the Department of Homeland Security have been investigating the Tates, according to people familiar with the confidential investigation. The agents have worked with federal prosecutors who won the conviction of Sean Combs, the music mogul known as “Diddy.” Both offices have declined to comment.
Florida’s attorney general, James Uthmeier, in March 2025 announced a criminal investigation into the Tates, which the brothers have called baseless.
The same month, one of Andrew’s then-girlfriends, Brianna Stern told the police in Beverly Hills that he had assaulted her when he was back in the United States. She is suing him in civil court, and Mr. Tate has countersued her for defamation.
Andrew and Tristan Tate are also suing a woman in Florida who is cited as a victim in the Romanian investigation.
