AIG allegations: VeryDarkMan lists conditions for honouring police interview

Social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has outlined conditions for honouring the Nigeria Police Force invitation over allegations he made against the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, AIG Moshood Jimoh.

The activist, through a statement issued by his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, on Instagram on Wednesday, said he was willing to appear before investigators but insisted that the process must be transparent to inspire public confidence.

The development followed the invitation extended to VeryDarkMan by the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja, to provide evidence in support of allegations he made against the senior police officer.

Earlier, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, said the police remained committed to due process, institutional discipline and the rule of law in handling the matter.

The Force also disclosed that the criminal case referenced in VeryDarkMan’s public comments had already been investigated and was before a competent court following legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

According to the police, the outcome of the matter would be determined by the judiciary.

The statement read: “The Force will not try this case in the media, nor will it allow its outcome to be shaped by public campaigns or commentary seeking to prejudge the officers or parties involved.”

The police further confirmed that AIG Jimoh had been invited by the FCID over the allegations, while VeryDarkMan was formally invited on July 30, 2026, to substantiate his claims.

Responding through his legal team, the social media influencer welcomed the investigation and reiterated his readiness to cooperate with the authorities.

The statement read: “Our client appreciates the decision of the Nigeria Police Force to commence an official investigation into the concerns he raised and reiterates his willingness to cooperate with the investigation.

“For the avoidance of doubt, our client has never opposed any lawful investigation.

“On the contrary, he remains ready, willing and available to honour any invitation lawfully extended to him by the Nigeria Police Force.”

However, Adeyanju argued that the nature of the allegations and the senior position occupied by the police officer required an open and accountable investigative process.

As part of the conditions for honouring the invitation, the legal team requested that representatives of the Nigerian Bar Association, civil society organisations and other independent observers be allowed to monitor the interview.

The statement said: “The interview must be observed by the civil society organisations, the Nigerian Bar Association and such other independent observers, as may be appropriate in the circumstances, to ensure maximum transparency and eliminate any possibility of misinformation or misrepresentation.

“That his legal representative be permitted to accompany him and remain present throughout the interview.”
