A video circulating on social media has sparked widespread concern after it showed a female Junior High School (JHS) female student smoking in the presence of her colleagues on a school compound.
In the footage, the young girl is seen holding what appears to be a smoking item while some of her colleagues surround her and cheer her on.
The students could be heard praising her as she appeared to display what they described as her smoking skills.
The video has generated strong reactions from social media users, with many expressing worry over the increasing exposure of young students to behaviours considered harmful and inappropriate for their age.
Some concerned individuals have called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to investigate the matter, locate the school involved, and take the necessary disciplinary and counselling measures.
Others have urged parents, teachers, and school authorities to pay closer attention to the activities of young people both inside and outside the classroom, stressing the importance of guidance and education on the dangers of substance use.
It remains unclear where and when the video was recorded, as well as the identity of the student and the school involved.
