Being a pick me is a curse – Nigerian woman recalls taking pre-wedding photos with her ex-husband 10 days after he allegedly poured hot tea on her face


A Nigerian woman, Ogechukwu Mary Eze has recalled when she went ahead to take pre-wedding photos with her ex-husband ten days after he allegedly poured hot tea on her face, tore her cloth and seized her phone because she couldn’t find his bike key that he had misplaced.
The mother of two, who shared her story in a Facebook post on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 remarked that she ‘deserves to be spit on by all the mad people in Lagos’ for being a ‘pick me’—a slang term for a woman desperate for male validation.”
“Oct 19, 2021. He poured me hot tea on my face because I couldn’t find his bike key that he misplaced, tore my cloth on my body and seized my phone so I can’t call anybody,” she wrote.
“I had to go to police and report the case before he returned my phone. I burnt his coat that he wears to church, I went to his shop and took 70k from his boy hoping to use as transport to take me back to my papa house.
“I ran to my cousin place and bought new clothes on my way.
“Oct 29, 2021; that’s 10 days later we went to take this pre wedding pictures and that 70k I took was remaining 50k then. He punished me by asking me to use the money and buy ashebi clothes and the clothes I will wear on traditional marriage day; he didn’t care if it was enough or not, that was my punishment.
“I had to task my 12 ashoebi girls to pay 3500 each for materials and added money from those that paid early to use as my transport to go to Lagos and buy the ashoebi clothes.
“Make una gather all the mad people in Lagos make Dem pour me their early morning spit.
“Being a Pick me is a curse. Time stamp: 1:54am, I can’t sleep!!”
