Clean energy: NASENI distributes smokeless stoves, cash to 200 women in Kano

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, NASENI, has distributed smokeless cooking stoves to 200 women in Kabo Local Government Area of Kano State.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the beneficiaries also received a bag of rice and N20,000 cash each under the agency’s sustainable empowerment programme.

Speaking at the launch of Phase Three of the empowerment programme in Kabo town on Saturday, the Executive Vice Chairman of NASENI, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, said the agency had also distributed solar home systems to residents of the area.

He said no fewer than 1,000 residents of Kabo would benefit from the programme, adding that each beneficiary would receive a bag of rice and N20,000 cash.

According to Mr Halilu, the intervention was part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and his commitment to promoting clean energy and improving the livelihoods of Nigerians.

He said NASENI was currently implementing more than 40 intervention programmes across the country in the areas of science, technology and engineering.

“Today, we are extending our impact to the people of Kabo Local Government to support Mr President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“We are running over 40 of these empowerment programmes across Nigeria and will continue to extend the goodwill of the President,” he said.

Mr Halilu, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, said the smokeless cooking stove would help reduce dependence on firewood and save trees from being cut down, thereby mitigating the effects of climate change.

He urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items and financial support, saying the intervention would help reduce household expenses while contributing to the government’s efforts to combat climate change.

Also speaking, the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, commended NASENI for the initiative.

Mr Jibrin said the implementation of the programme demonstrated how science, technology and engineering could be translated into practical solutions to address challenges confronting communities.

He said the distribution of the clean cooking stoves would directly improve the lives of beneficiaries and promote healthier and more efficient cooking practices.

“We must continue to promote homegrown technologies, respond to our peculiarities and provide sustainable solutions to the challenges confronting our communities.

“Access to clean and more efficient cooking solutions has important implications for households in our communities.

“That is why we commend this initiative. As legislators, we will continue to support this kind of initiative for the future of our people,” Mr Jibrin assured.
