Afrobeats musician Davido has written to United States President Donald Trump expressing alarm over the potential for violence, intimidation and electoral disruption in the forthcoming Osun State governorship election, where his uncle, incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, is pursuing re-election on August 15, 2026.

In his communication addressed to Trump, Davido appealed for international scrutiny of the electoral process and urged the US administration and global community to pressure relevant authorities to safeguard voters and uphold ballot integrity.

He emphasised that Osun residents deserve to exercise their constitutional voting rights without fear or coercion.

Davido stressed the necessity for peace, transparency and a credible electoral framework, explicitly rejecting bloodshed and intimidation as acceptable outcomes.

His intervention follows an earlier declaration that he would directly contact Trump via social media and physically appear at the White House if dissatisfied with the election’s conduct.

The musician rejected characterisations of his statements as humorous, expressing confidence that his concerns would reach the US President.

He appealed to political actors and stakeholders to refrain from interference, urging them to permit Osun residents to freely determine their choice of leadership.
