Osun Election Violence Explodes As Deadly Pre Rally Ambush Leaves Many Casualty

Tensions have escalated in Ilesa, Osun State, following reported att@cks that resulted in the deaths of two All Progressives Congress members and injuries to multiple others ahead of the state governorship election.

The latest incident occurred Tuesday morning in the Igbogi area, where APC supporters had assembled in preparation for a final campaign rally.

Witnesses reported that suspected political th¥gs arrived at approximately 7:30 am and opened fire on the gathering, prompting residents and party supporters to disperse.

A witness named Sola described how the att@ck occurred shortly before the rally’s scheduled commencement, with gunfire striking four individuals.

Two succumbed to their injuries, while two others remain in critical condition receiving treatment at Wesley Guild Hospital. Among the wounded is the APC Woman Leader in Ilesa.

The incident compounds escalating violence in the locality. Reports indicate that 12 APC members have been k!lled in separate incidents within 24 hours five during a weekend rally and seven during Tuesday’s gathering.

In response, APC supporters staged street protests condemning what they characterised as political violence and intimidation.

The protests were addressed by Senator Francis Fadahunsi and other party leaders from Ijesa land.

However, remarks attributed to Fadahunsi in video footage circulating online sparked controversy when he appeared to say, “We must not see any Accord Party member in Ijesa land.

When you see them, k!ll them.” Governor Ademola Adeleke called for the senator’s arrest based on the statement.

Fadahunsi subsequently clarified through his media office that he advocated defeating the Accord Party through voting, not physical violence, urging all political actors to maintain peace throughout the electoral process and calling on security agencies to protect voter participation.

The Osun State Police Command confirmed investigations into the att@ck are ongoing, with further details forthcoming as inquiries progress.
