Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has removed Mrs Sonia Ebanehita Omonzane from her position as Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board and appointed Hon Ayewoh Ambrose Oyakhilome as her successor.
The action represents the fourth leadership transition at the SUBEB helm under the current administration.
The governor previously reassigned Barrister Onomen Goodness Briggs from the SUBEB chairmanship to the Board for Technical and Vocational Education in May 2025, concurrent with Omonzane’s transfer from the latter board to assume SUBEB leadership.
The administration had earlier moved Dr Paddy Iyamu from the SUBEB chairmanship to the position of Education Commissioner.
The Secretary to the State Government announced the development on Tuesday, confirming gubernatorial approval for Oyakhilome’s appointment to head the SUBEB.
Prior to this assignment, Oyakhilome served as Executive Chairman of the Edo State Rural Access Roads Agency, where he was involved in government programme implementation and rural infrastructure connectivity initiatives.
The governor characterised Oyakhilome as a dedicated administrator and public figure demonstrating strong commitment to effective leadership.
According to the statement, Oyakhilome is committed to advancing educational policies and programmes designed to strengthen learning quality and achievement outcomes throughout the state.
The Secretary to the State Government indicated that Oyakhilome’s name would be forwarded to the Edo State House of Assembly for legislative consideration and formal confirmation.
