CP Daaor Assumes Duty In Edo, Assures Highly Mobile Policing

…As Predecessor Urges Him To Sustain, Surpass Current Security Record

The newly deployed Commissioner of Police to Edo State, CP Patrick Daaor, has assumed duty in Benin City, the state capital, with a promise to adopt a highly mobile policing strategy to address security challenges across the state.

CP Daaor arrived at the Edo State Police Command headquarters at about 1:30pm on Monday, August 10, 2026, where he immediately inspected the sentry guards mounted in his honour before being received by senior officers of the Command.

A few minutes later, his predecessor, AIG Monday Agbonika, who is now the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 5, arrived at the Command headquarters for the formal handover and taking-over ceremony held at the office of the Commissioner of Police.

Speaking after the ceremony, Agbonika recounted some of the challenges encountered and successes recorded during his stewardship of the Command, urging his successor, CP Daaor to sustain and surpass the achievements recorded under his leadership.

The AIG said some gallant officers and operatives of the Command had paid the ultimate price in the course of ensuring the prevailing peace and security in the state.

He commended the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, sister security agencies and the people of the state for their unwavering support and cooperation during his tenure.

On what Edo residents should expect under his leadership, CP Daaor said, “They should expect a highly mobile command, I mean a command that is always moving, addressing every issue that has to do with the good people of Edo State.”

Patrck Daaor, the 51st Commissioner of Police in Edo State, hails from Benue State and was, until his current posting, the Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration at the Force Intelligence Department (FID), Abuja.

A career police officer with more than 30 years of service in the Nigeria Police Force, CP Daaor has served in various capacities spanning investigation, divisional policing, Police Mobile Force operations, area command and Force Headquarters duties.

He succeeded Agbonika, who was recently elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police and deployed as the AIG in charge of Zone 5, Benin City.

Monday Agbonika reportedly assumed duty as AIG Zone 5 on July 29, 2026, following the retirement of his predecessor, AIG Salman Dogo-Garba, on July 22, 2026.
