EFCC forfeits 10,053 assets, including aircraft, oil rigs, hotels

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, says it secured the forfeiture of 10,053 tangible assets between October 2023 and July 2026.

EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, disclosed this on Monday in Abuja while presenting an account of his stewardship.

He said the assets were forfeited under interim and final court orders.

According to him, the forfeited assets included 8,198 electronic items, 1,177 real estate properties, 370 automobiles and 251 plots of land.

Other assets, he said, included schools, factories, hotels, shops, oil rigs, barges, machinery and aircraft.

The commission also recorded the forfeiture of 102 tonnes of solid minerals during the period.

Mr Olukoyede said proceeds from the disposal of assets under final forfeiture orders amounted to approximately N12.07 billion and had been paid to the Federal Government.

He said the commission’s asset recovery programme was aimed at depriving criminal enterprises of the proceeds of crime while ensuring that recovered value was returned to the public interest and legitimate beneficiaries.

According to him, the impact of asset recovery goes beyond cash recoveries to strengthening government finances, protecting businesses and institutions and supporting productive investment.
