A young man has been arrested by personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) after he was allegedly found dressed in full camouflage uniform while posing as a military officer, a Lieutenant Colonel as a matter of fact.
During preliminary questioning, the suspect reportedly struggled to properly identify himself, eventually claiming to be a security officer attached to a task force rather than a serving member of the armed forces.
His shifting account and inability to provide convincing answers about his supposed role reportedly deepened suspicions among the officers who apprehended him.
The incident has added to the already existing list of similar cases in Ghana in recent years, where individuals have been caught impersonating soldiers, sometimes for extended periods, before being exposed.
Past cases have included suspects using fake uniforms to defraud people with bogus recruitment promises, gain unauthorised access to restricted areas, or simply move through public spaces with unearned authority.
Ghana’s Criminal Offences Act (Act 29, 1960) criminalises impersonation of public officials, including military and security personnel, with the Ghana Armed Forces regularly reiterating the seriousness of such offences.
Further details on the suspect’s identity, motive, and any charges he may face have not yet been released.
