FULL LIST: US Embassy, Consulate announce remaining 2026 holiday closures in Nigeria

The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos have announced their remaining public holiday closures for 2026.

According to a schedule published on the official website of the US Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria, both diplomatic missions will suspend routine public services on eight occasions between August and December in observance of Nigerian and American public holidays.

The first closure will be on Tuesday, August 25, for Eid-El-Maulud, which commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad and is recognised as a public holiday in Nigeria.

The missions will also be closed on Monday, September 7, in observance of US Labour Day, and on Thursday, October 1, to mark Nigeria’s Independence Day.

Another closure is scheduled for Monday, October 12, for Columbus Day in the United States.

In November, the embassy and consulate will suspend operations on Wednesday, November 11, for Veterans Day, and Thursday, November 26, for Thanksgiving Day.

The final closures for the year will be Friday, December 25, for Christmas Day, observed in both Nigeria and the United States, and Saturday, December 26, for Boxing Day, a public holiday in Nigeria.

The US missions advised visa applicants and those seeking passport, notarial and other consular services to plan their appointments around the holiday schedule, as routine public services will not be available on the listed dates.

However, emergency assistance for US citizens will remain available throughout the holiday period.
