Ghanaian passengers have expressed frustration after being left stranded at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi, citing a lack of food, water, and hotel accommodation, as well as unclear communication from Kenya Airways about their next flight.
“We have been here since morning, no food, no water. Kenya Airways is doing this to us,” one passenger said, describing the situation as they awaited clarity on their travel arrangements.
Their ordeal comes amid a broader disruption at JKIA, one of Africa’s busiest air transport hubs, after aviation workers represented by the Kenya Aviation Workers Union began a go-slow and walkout over pay and working conditions from Sunday, August 30.
The industrial action has triggered delays of up to six hours, along with flight cancellations, leaving thousands of travellers stranded across the airport.
Coverage from Nairobi-based and international media has described hundreds of passengers bedding down on terminal seats and floors overnight as they waited for updates on their flights.
While some airlines have arranged hotel transfers for affected customers, capacity has reportedly been limited, leaving many passengers, including Ghanaians, stuck at the terminal with no clear timeline for resolution.
Kenya Airways has publicly acknowledged the significant disruption to its operations but has not yet addressed the specific complaints raised by the stranded Ghanaian passengers regarding food, water, and accommodation.
The affected passengers are appealing for urgent assistance as they continue to wait for updates on their onward travel.
