Herbalist docked for allegedly defrauding a Briton of N29.2m

A 65-year-old herbalist, Sikiru Mojereola, was on Monday docked in an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly defrauding a Briton of N29.2 million.

The police charged Mojereola with conspiracy, fraud and conversion.

The Prosecution Counsel, PC Olapeju Durodola, told the court that the  defendant conspired with others, at large to commit the offence of frauɗ.

Durodola alleged that Mojereola on July 12, with intent to defraud , invited Lydia Villandre from the UK to cure her  of ”spiritual problems” and also provide medication for her daughter’s epilepsy.

The police said that the defendant obtained 15, 800 Pounds (approximately N29.2million) from Vilandre.

Durodola said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 383 and is  punishable under Sections 390 (9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Defence Counsel,  K. O. Oyesola, prayed the court to admit his client to  on liberal terms.

The Chief Magistrate,  Olabisi Ogunkanmi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N10 million with two sureties in like sum.

Ogunkanmi ordered that the sureties must own a property within the jurisdiction of the court.

She adjourned the matter until September 4, for hearing.
