IPAC berates Gov Lawal over worsening insecurity in Zamfara

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) for Zamfara State has criticised Governor Dauda Lawal for the worsening socio-economic and security situation in the state.

During a press conference held on Tuesday at the IPAC headquarters in Gusau, Chairman Hon. Sulaiman Salisu, along with Secretary Surajo Ruwanbore and Publicity Secretary Kabiru Garba, expressed their concerns about the escalating insecurity in the region.

“Following an emergency meeting and extensive consultations with member political parties, community leaders, and stakeholders across the fourteen (14) Local Government Areas of the state, wishes to express its profound concern over the worsening socio-economic and security situation confronting the people of Zamfara State.

“After careful assessment of the current situation, IPAC Zamfara observed the escalating insecurity, which included Banditry, kidnappings, and attacks on innocent communities.

They also lamented the lack of agricultural support, stressing that despite the ongoing farming season, many farmers have not received fertilisers, improved seedlings, or other essential agricultural inputs, thereby threatening food production and food security.

“IPAC is concerned about the reported high cost of road construction and other capital projects, and calls for greater transparency, accountability, and value for public funds.

They maintained that IPAC remains committed to promoting democratic governance, accountability, transparency, and the protection of the welfare and interests of the citizens.

“In spite of statutory allocations from the Federation Account and interventions from development partners, many residents continue to face severe economic hardship, unemployment, and multiple forms of taxation”, they lamented.
