Repair Work Turns Fatal as BEDC Staff Dies in Ekiti

A routine operation to restore electricity supply in Ado Ekiti ended in tragedy over the weekend after a staff member of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) was electrocuted while carrying out repair work on an electricity pole.
The incident occurred opposite the Federal Polytechnic Satellite Campus, where the technician and other members of his team had been deployed to fix a fault and restore power to the area following a disruption in electricity supply.
Eyewitnesses said the BEDC staff was working on top of the pole when he suddenly became weak and appeared disoriented. His colleagues immediately moved to assist him before operatives of the Ekiti State Fire and Emergency Service arrived and helped bring him down from the pole.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment but was later confirmed dead while receiving medical attention, according to hospital sources.
The incident is the second of its kind at the location. In 2012, Samuel Isaac, a staff member of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), was also electrocuted while carrying out repair work in the same area.
