Lagos Security Fund Gives Navy New Gear Ahead Of Elections

The Lagos State Security Trust Fund has equipped the Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft with protective gear comprising 50 bulletproof vests, 50 ballistic helmets and 100 raincoats, whilst calling on naval personnel to strengthen their commitment to safeguarding lives and assets.

The donation was presented at NNS Beecroft headquarters in Apapa during a ceremony on Tuesday as security formations bolster readiness ahead of the electoral period.

Dr Ayodele Ogunsan, Executive Secretary of the LSSTF, explained that the provision followed an assessment identifying operational needs within the state’s security establishment.

He characterised the gesture as consistent with the Fund’s practice of engaging security agencies to evaluate their circumstances and reinforce personnel morale.

The selection of items reflected identified deficiencies at the facility. Beyond the protective equipment delivered, Ogunsan disclosed that additional support measures had been discussed and would be implemented soon.

He articulated the Fund’s mandate as identifying and addressing gaps within recognised security formations, emphasising that interventions aim to enhance agency performance and strengthen civilian protection during critical periods, particularly the forthcoming elections.

Commodore Adams Aliu, Commander of NNS Beecroft, acknowledged the contribution as a substantial reinforcement of the Navy’s internal security capacity.

He noted that the equipment would facilitate naval operations securing Lagos waterways and adjacent terrestrial regions, underscoring the Armed Forces’ constitutional obligation to render military assistance to civilian governance.

Ogunsan and Aliu subsequently visited Flag Officer Commanding Abdullahi Mustapha at Western Naval Command headquarters in Apapa, consolidating inter-agency coordination aimed at enhancing security across the state and nation.
