Property valued at approximately N80 million was destroyed in a fire that engulfed two residential flats at Yalenguruza Quarters, opposite MacConnels Hotel in Gombe State.
The Federal Fire Service reported receiving an emergency alert at 3:03pm on Friday and dispatched a multipurpose water tender from a local fire station within five minutes.
Firefighters reached the scene at 3:15pm and encountered flames affecting two separate residential structures containing multiple rooms.
Emergency personnel initiated immediate suppression operations, using a medium jet from the water tender to extinguish the blaze.
Swift firefighting intervention prevented the fire from expanding to adjoining properties and preserved an estimated N150 million worth of additional property.
The operation resulted in no loss of life. Emergency personnel, led by senior firefighters, conducted suppression activities supported by state fire service personnel and police officers from a local division.
Following complete extinguishment of flames, firefighters conducted a thorough inspection of the affected premises to confirm elimination of all fire sources and absence of ongoing hazards.
Emergency crews returned to their station at approximately 5:38pm.
The Federal Fire Service reminded residents to maintain vigilance and observe essential fire safety protocols in residential settings.
Members of the public were encouraged to report fire emergencies immediately to the nearest fire station to facilitate rapid response and minimise property damage and potential casualties.
