Tinubu Swears In Abel Enitan As New Head Of Civil Service

President Tinubu has sworn in Abel Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service.

Enitan took office on Thursday in a brief ceremony at the presidential villa in Abuja, replacing Didi Walson-Jack who retired after reaching the required retirement age of 60.

During the ceremony, both officials signed documents marking the official handover.

Walson-Jack presented a handover note covering her time in office to Enitan, and the two shook hands to mark the formal transfer of duties.

Enitan is from Osun State and was the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service.

He served as a Permanent Secretary for seven years and seven months before his appointment.

He previously worked at the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, the Office of the Vice President and as Permanent Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Education.

The president appointed Enitan on August 19, with his new role taking effect on August 27.

The president said Enitan brings deep experience and understanding of how the civil service works.

He asked the new Head of Service to continue ongoing reforms and innovations, deepen professionalism and build a civil service that is professional, merit-driven, accountable and responsive to Nigerians’ needs.

The president also thanked Walson-Jack for her service and for the reforms and innovations she brought to the civil service during her time.

Enitan was born on December 12, 1966.

He attended secondary school in Ibadan and university in Ile-Ife before getting a degree in Finance and Banking from the University of Lagos in 1988.

He later earned a master’s degree in Public Policy Analysis in 2015.
